Older people are like children.  It’s hard for us to stay in bed when we’ve met our sleeping quota.  Turning the clock back doesn’t matter.  If we aren’t sleepy….we can’t sleep.

I was up at 5:30 this morning.  The thought of an extra hour of sleep felt great last night but then this morning….I couldn’t sleep.

I made coffee and found a comfy place on the couch.  This picture is what I saw outside my window.   I couldn’t get the following wonderful verse out of my head.

This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

I’ve been with you all for 24 posts now.  We’ve prayed for our country, our friends and our vote.  We’ve thought about what is coming, what our life will be like and what our responsibilities are.  It feels like we’ve been through the mill and then simmered in a pressure cooker.  Yes, we are leaning on God….but…..these last few days/hours are going to be even more anxious.

I stared at the sunrise and began to smile.  I mentally know that God is still in control and that he cares about my life, but looking at the sunrise I saw the reliability of God.  Every morning and every night from the beginning of time until now – God has engineered a sunrise.

Only once in the Bible did God hold back the sun.  In Joshua 10:12-14 Joshua asked God to hold the sun and the moon in place so that he could win the battle against the Amorites.  It was a hard fought battle, but they won.   Joshua 10:14 states, There was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.

That is even more of an encouragement than God’s reliability.  God fights for his children.

Let me say that again.  God fights for his children.  No matter what circumstance we are in, God will do whatever He needs to in order to protect His children.  He will even stop the sun and moon from their orbit if necessary.

We have a responsibility too.  We have to stay close to Him.  He have to ask for forgiveness daily.  We have to be on our best behavior.  We have to show him that we love him by following His commandments.

But…if we stay that close to Him….we can be sure that he will use all His power to provide for his children.

Dear Jesus, Please forgive us of our sins.  Please teach us how to follow your commandments.  Please take care of America and remember that this great land started with the goal to be a land guided by your hand.

Again today we received news about a candidate that causes even more anxious feelings.  This election has been full of twists, turns and nail biting anxious behaviors.  More than ever we need a strong shoulder to lean on.  More than ever we need a heavenly hug.  More than ever we need the reassurance that you will guide, protect and provide for your children.

Please hold us tightly and reassure us that your love is strong enough.  Strong enough to guide us and to keep us in your will.  We love you.  We trust you.

Please Jesus, Please Bless America.

See you tomorrow
